Welcome to a conversation with much-loved American author Laura Kalpakian. With an impressive repertoire of sixteen novels and four collections of short fiction, Laura’s poignant storytelling has earned her recognition and admiration in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Not only has she been a proud recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Fiction, but she was also notably nominated for the prestigious 2007 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. Her literary skill extends beyond novels, with her short stories gracing the pages of esteemed publications such as the Iowa Review, Prairie Schooner, and Good Housekeeping editions across the US, UK, and India, among many other notable magazines and journals.

In a special treat for literature lovers, Laura’s acclaimed book, Fair Augusto & Other Stories, has made a grand re-entrance, being re-released to the public in June 2023. Join us as we delve into the inspiration, process, and reflections surrounding this remarkable collection of stories.

    The “power of the past” is indeed something that becomes more interesting nearly every day. As a retired person living through the pandemic I have more time to reflect on the richness of our lives. Your works help me to find those memories.

She has illustrated more than ten books for the children’s trade market and written several more. Her books have been published by Charlesbridge, Albert Whitman and Co., Dawn Publications, Sasquatch Books, and Arbordale. She has published for the adult market under the name A.G. Bennett. She lives in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, with her family of two and four-footed creatures. Her first novel for adults, Shepherd's Derelict, was published in 2021. Her second novel, The Cuttlefish, will be released in 2024.
